Over the next three weeks Pink Tartan’s flagship store in Yorkville is honoured to be hosting “Brain Wash” – a brain sculpture by acclaimed artist Mr. Brainwash in support of Baycrest’s The Brain Project.
Age related brain disease does not discriminate, and as our population ages, more and more people will be affected. According to Baycrest, the number of people affected is expected to double to approximately 1.4 million by 2031.
As part of curated collection of 100 brain sculptures designed by a diverse group of artists, The Brain Project aims to raise funds for the care and research into brain related disease including Alzheimer’s and dementia.
As art lovers, we are a huge fan of Pop artist Thierry Guetta better known as Mr. Brainwash, a French born artists based in LA who fuses Pop Art imagery with contemporary street art. After a visit to his most recent exhibition at the Tagliatella Galleries in New York, we were inspired to bring the brain to our store.
The concept for “Brain Wash” – is an artistic rendering of the aging brain. The brain is covered in glued family photos Guetta found in antique shops, with paint dripping down from a large paintbrush representing “what we make of life.” Across the front tiny figurines are climbing a ladder erasing and painting over the images, representing our memories that are lost forever to disease.
Visit Pink Tartan’s flagships store 77 Yorkville to see “Brain Wash,” from now until Oct.7.
